Discovery Woods

As I've mentioned before, Zander attends a cool Reggio Emilia-inspired preschool called Discovery Woods. (It appears that the website is down, but I'm including the link anyway for future reference.) And I don't mean "cool" in an "all the cool kids are doing it" way. I mean cool in a "Man, I wish I could go there too" way.

Here are some photos from last week's "hammering/nail/bottle cap" project that I mentioned in this post:

These photos are from the *same* day:

Also on the same day but not shown (because other children were in the photos): getting to know the school snake, holding a puppet show, and reading books. For the record, the other school animals are a turtle, a tarantula (really), a cockroach (really), two geckos, a guinea pig, a rabbit, two cats, two dogs, a toad or two, and three birds.

See below for the icing on the cake (so to speak) -- a typical school lunch menu for the week. (Morning snacks are brought by families of enrolled children, so those are not shown.)

MONDAY: Whole grain spaghetti with homemade tomato and beef sauce. Mix of carrots, corn, and peas. Fresh salad of greens. Choice of organic whole milk or water.

TUESDAY: Grilled pineapple-teriyaki pork chops. French cut green beans. Fresh salad of greens. Choice of organic whole milk or water.

WEDNESDAY: Oven baked chicken thighs. Mix of carrots, corn, and peas. Fresh salad of greens. Choice of organic whole milk or water.

THURSDAY: Broiled, lightly breaded Tilapia filets. Medley of brown and wild rice with soft wheat and rye berries. French cut green beans. Fresh salad of greens. Choice of organic whole milk or water.

FRIDAY: Grilled flank steak. Steamed broccoli rabe. Medley of brown and red rice with pearled barley and rye berries. Fresh salad of greens. Choice of organic whole milk or water.

Yeah, it's pretty off the hook. Did I just say, "off the hook?" I hadn't thought of the preschool/dinner-to-go idea! What about a movie rental on top of that?! - JCB
